The Best Time of Year to Visit Florida

With great food, beautiful scenery and tons of activities available for the whole family, there’s never really a bad time to visit the Sunshine State—but if you’re coming to enjoy the sunshine, you should plan your visit around the weather. Believe it or not, some parts of Florida actually do get chilly—just not as cold as weather you’d find in northern states.

Continue reading to learn when we recommend visiting Southwest Florida, especially if you’re planning on booking a kayak rental:

  • February: With average highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s, February is a great time to visit Southwest Florida. The average water temperature in February is about 66°F, so it might be a little chilly if you’re planning on swimming, but we only see a few days of rain in February, so there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities.
  • March: There’s a reason Florida is such a hot (no pun intended) destination for spring breakers in March—the weather is beautiful. The average high is close to 80°F, and it doesn’t get much cooler than 60°F. If you’re planning on booking a boat or kayak rental in March, be sure to reserve your spot early to beat the spring break crowds.
  • April: April is another popular month for spring breakers. This is the first month where temperatures routinely break 80°F, and the lows are only in the mid April is known as a shoulder month, meaning a month between the peak and off-peak seasons. Besides Easter weekend, you can often find affordable flights and lodging in south Florida.
  • May: As you can imagine, it gets a little hotter as we move into summer. The average high is 87°F, but the average low is only 70°F. This is also when we start to move into peak season, but there aren’t as many tourists in May since many schools are still in session, so you can still find affordable hotels and flights.

What about the other months?

As we touched on, there’s never a bad time to come down to Florida, but be ready for daily rainfall if you’re visiting between June and October, and we may even get a hurricane or two during this season. Additionally, the middle of the summer gets extremely hot and humid.

If you’re visiting in the summer, you’ll find that the best way to beat the heat is with a boat rental. The air is nice and cool on the Gulf of Mexico, and the average water temperature is well above 85°F. If you’re able to avoid our daily rain showers, you’re sure to have a wonderful time out on the water if you visit in the summer.
